Allianz: Forget ‘generous’ pay packages if net zero targets are missed

Companies should not consider pushing through ‘overly generous’ executive pay packages if they have not implemented or detailed any net zero targets, Allianz Global Investors warned today.

The European asset management giant made it clear it plans to vote against any pay packages if a company does not have a clear path towards net zero, and hinted it will hold directors accountable.

Outlining its approach to net zero issues, Allianz GI said high polluters and emitters should start rolling out a detailed net zero strategy, followed by offering investors a vote on the proposals.

While issuing the stark warning, Allianz GI disclosed that it had supported 70 out of 88 shareholder proposals on climate and sustainability issues last year.
