To be successful at engagement in Asia, investors need to focus on the nuances: Climate Action 100+

Investor coalition Climate Action 100+ has released an updated guide for investor engagement strategy in Asia. According to the guide, the first step is to assess the current state of transition strategy at the company. The guide outlines five stages of transition planning beginning with stage 1 where the company has not yet made a net-zero commitment. In comparison companies in stage 5 are those that have developed their targets and aligned their goals with the 1.5°C pathway. The guide argues that engagement strategy varies based on which stage the company is in. The statement from Climate Action 100+ says, “to be most effective, investors engaging in Asian markets need to be cognisant of the nuances amongst different markets in terms of the existing regulatory landscape. In their strategy, investors should also consider the influence of different stakeholders on company practice and the impact of corporate structure and practices influencing their performance on climate change”.
