UK announces funding for space-based solar power technology
UK business and energy secretary Kwasi Kwarteng has announced funding for space technologies in a bid to reduce emissions and improve energy security. Grant funding of £3m will be targeted at space-based solar power projects. According to the government’s statement, these technologies use solar panels to capture solar energy and can provide energy without being disrupted by weather. Secretary Kwarteng said, “Space-based solar power could provide an affordable, clean and reliable source of energy for the whole world to benefit from, helping the move away from expensive fossil fuels. Today’s investment is an exciting example of how we can go even further in our ambitions to make the UK a science superpower”.
