Woodside Energy aiming for near-zero methane emissions by 2030

Australian energy company Woodside Energy has signed up to the Aiming for Zero Methane Emissions Initiative. The initiative is aimed at eliminating operational methane emissions and advocating for the inclusion of methane in both government and private emission-reduction targets. Current signatories include a wide range of global energy players including Aramco, BP, Shell, Petrobras and Equinor. According to Woodside, signing up to this initiative means “committing to striving to reach near-zero methane emissions from its [Woodside’s] operated assets by 2030”. Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill said: “Minimising methane emissions has historically been a priority for Woodside. For example, frontline engineering, operations and maintenance staff are empowered to understand and act on methane emissions to support a sustainable ‘find and fix’ philosophy that can be implemented by site personnel”.
