The International Emissions Trading Association (IETA) has named Switzerland-based Enric Arderiu Serra as its new chairman

Enric Arderiu Serra takes over as IETA chair

The International Emissions Trading Association (IETA) is changing leadership, as the business group that is pushing for greenhouse gas reductions told Net Zero Investor it has elected investment insider Enric Arderiu Serra as its new chair.

At the same time, group adopted - at the COP28 climate summit in Dubai - its new motto, 'Making Net Zero Possible'.

Alongside Arderiu, Mary Grady and Federico di Credico have been elected vice-chairs of of the organisation that was first founded in June 1999, with the objective to create and introduce mechanisms and investor incentives to meet the climate objectives set out in the Kyoto Protocol.

IETA is also seen as one of the leading business group focused on pricing and trading greenhouse gas reductions. 

Arderiu Serra had been a council member since 2017. Currently global head of environmental products at Mercuria, focused on the energy and environmental trading industry, he previously worked at bp and EcoSecurities.

He succeeds Lisa DeMarco of Resilient, who has served as chair for the last two years.

The organisation also honoured Angela Churie Kallhauge and Nick Campbell as new IETA Fellows, its annual tribute to individuals who have made "outstanding contributions to the carbon market and its professional community."

Kallhauge is presently executive vice president for impact at the Environmental Defense Fund. Previously she led the secretariat of the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition for five years, and worked for 14 years on climate change, energy and development issues at the Swedish Energy Agency.

Campbell, meanwhile, served as environmental manager at Arkema for 24 years, during which time he was "a stalwart of the business community at many COPs," as the IETA put it.
