UKSIF chief James Alexander to lead Global Sustainable Investment Alliance

The Global Sustainable Investment Alliance (GSIA), the international body that represents a range of regional investor-focused green finance organisations, has a new chair.

London-based James Alexander, currently the chief executive of GSIA's UK-member body, the UK Sustainable Investment and Finance Association (UKSIF), has been promoted.

Alexander replaces Simon O'Connor, who started to lead the GSIA three years ago, while also serving as the chief executive of the Responsible Investment Association Australasia.

The green finance insider said his main priorities will be to "raise the voice of sustainable finance at the global level, and crucially facilitate greater harmonisation of regulatory standards over the coming years."

Alexander is a well-known figure within the net zero investment community.

He is currently also the treasurer of Eurosif, the European Sustainable Investment Forum, and a member of the Green Technical Advisory Group (GTAG), providing advice to the UK government on implementing Britain's green taxonomy strategy.

As a member of the Disclosures and Labels Advisory Group (DLAG), Alexander also advises the UK financial services watchdog, the FCA, on the rollout of the SDR and the regulator's newly proposed green investment fund labelling regime.
