Carbon Tracker analysis suggests Saudi Aramco is “dragging its feet” when it comes to emissions reduction

In a blog post for Carbon Tracker (CT) Maeve O'Connor, an associate analyst at the think tank writes that Saudi Aramco is underperforming on its climate pledges even though the oil giant had released a sustainability report in June and the company had claimed that it would be net-zero by 2050. The article reads, “While the news of the world’s largest oil producer committing to net zero was sure to grab headlines, a closer look reveals that its targets are far from climate aligned. As part of our Absolute Impact series, Carbon Tracker has developed a methodology to assess corporate emissions targets; our ‘Hallmarks of Paris Compliance’. Despite Aramco purportedly ‘supporting the objectives set by the Paris Agreement’, the company’s ‘net zero’ aim meets just one of our three requirements, and its carbon intensity metric meets none”. According to Carbon Tracker, Aramco’s missions target cover only 15% of its emissions profile.
