Barclays partners with Oxford University on agri-transition research

UK-based bank Barclays has entered into a partnership with Oxford University’s Sustainable Finance Group and the UK Centre for Greening Finance and Investment for a three-year research project. The project will generate data and conduct research on decarbonisation pathways in the UK’s agricultural value chain. The availability of improved methodologies and farm-level emissions data is expected to support financial institutions as they design their agri-sector transition strategies. Notably, accurately tracking emissions in the agriculture sector is a key challenge to credible decarbonisation strategies. The project aims to address this gap. Adam White, Barclays’ head of agriculture, said: “Farmers we talk to across the UK are keen to engage on the journey to net zero, however they are sometimes unsure of the actions to take or the impact of those actions. This work will enable us to support more customers on confidently taking the steps towards net zero in line with sector pathways and continue to support a vibrant UK agriculture sector.”
