IRENA outlines plan for China to achieve carbon neutrality
The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has released a report that outlines a plan that could enable China to achieve carbon neutrality by leveraging renewables. The set of recommendations include power network reforms, electrification of end-use sectors and energy efficiency improvements among others. The report reads, “Topics where significant uncertainties remain, and where China can particularly both benefit from and contribute to global action, include: the strengthening of power systems to integrate high shares of variable renewables, the expansion of electrification, and the decarbonisation of end-use sectors, specifically buildings, transport (particularly long-haul aviation and shipping) and industrial processes (particularly steel, cement and petrochemicals)
