Triodos Bank, based in the Netherlands, has committed at least €500m to nature-based investments and loans, the lender said.
The initiative, which part of the bank’s broader biodiversity targets, will fund investments, loans and contributions across nature restoration, conservation, and the removal of CO2 emissions from the atmosphere.
Projects to be funded through the €500m include sustainable management and restoration of ecosystems, such as forests, wetlands, and agricultural land, which provide vital services like carbon sequestration, water purification, and soil fertility.
The bank has committed to deploy the €500m by 2030.

Jacco Minnaar, chief commercial officer at Triodos Bank, highlighted that this commitment signals the institution’s intention to be a leader in financing nature-based projects. “Investing in nature-based solutions is crucial for restoring our natural environment and mitigating the effects of the climate crisis.”
Triodos plans to track the impact of its nature-based investments and loans from 2026. The bank also aims to engage with industries that contribute to biodiversity loss, such as deforestation and chemical companies in its investment portfolio.
