Schroders: ‘expert’ investors link sustainable investing with long-term profitability

Global asset manager Schroders has published the results of its 2022 Global Investor Survey (GIS). As part of the GIS, investors were asked about their views regarding sustainable investment. The survey results show that 52% of investors are drawn to sustainable funds because of their environmental impact, while 38% find these funds attractive given their return expectations. The return expectation factor’s importance is lower than the previous year’s survey results – according to Schroders this could reflect a global economic context where “energy prices have soared, benefiting oil companies and those businesses typically seen as less sustainable”. The survey also reveals that knowledgeable investors or investors with an expertise see through short-term volatility and focus on the long-term value of sustainable investing: “Sixty-eight percent of the expert/advanced group agree that investing sustainably is the only way to ensure profitability in the long term. This was considerably higher than the beginner/rudimentary group, where only 43% agreed with this statement.”
